Liz Hyde - Pottery
Liz Hyde expresses her intense appreciation for the beauty of nature and all things organic in her Botanical Pottery. She presses plants into a dark stoneware clay, glazes the impression and fires it to 2380 degrees Fahrenheit in a gas-fired kiln. The high temperature and flame-touched surfaces give the ware its deep rich and natural colors. Liz believes that pottery needs to be functional, feel good in your hands, and be beautiful to look at. The combination of vibrant colors, natural materials, and strong geometric edging creates this balance of beauty and functionality.
Liz attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, studying graphic art and sculpture. She has worked out of the Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville, MA for the last ten years and presently lives in Southborough, MA, west of Boston. Previously, she lived on Martha’s Vineyard, teaching Middle School science, farming, and keeping extensive gardens.
